Warwick Freeman Southern Star – Te Tonga Whetu o te Rangi ProjecT

Remember Them remembers those whose lives were taken or affected by World War One.

We remember the losses, and so too the human potential for peace.

Almost 100,000 New Zealanders (10% of all Kiwis at that time) served overseas in WWI, with over 18,000 dying and 40,000 injured. The total number of casualties for all countries in WWI was 37 million. The Art of Remembrance provides a unique and permanent way for us to Remember Them.

Remember Them has captured the imaginations of people across New Zealand and the world through the Max Gimblett ONZM quatrefoil-form artworks.

Now, a star has been born – created by Warwick Freeman, artist, jeweler, and New Zealand Arts Foundation Laureate.

Southern Star – Te Tonga Whetu o te Rangi have now sold out. We thank you for your support.

The Art of Remembrance 2015.

7,000 Max Gimblett ONZM Remembrance artworks adorned St David’s from ANZAC Eve 2015 for three months. The brass artworks, each the size of a soldier’s hand outstretched, sold across Aotearoa and the world to raise a record $1 million clear of costs to save the Soldier’s Memorial Church. It was also a massive feat of community volunteerism in support of a vision that would see St David’s continue as a living memorial and centre for community.

This has been achieved thanks to the support of individuals, businesses, institutions and thousands of individuals across New Zealand and overseas.

Remembrance quatrefoil artworks by Max Gimblett ONZM.

On ANZAC Day 2015, thousands of brass, Max Gimblett ONZM Remembrance artworks adorned the walls of St David's for three months, before being sold across New Zealand and internationally, as the story of St David's spread.

This video captures that story.

St David's survival was at risk, but thanks to The Art of Remembrance, the future of this historic Memorial Church building is bright - filled with the potential to serve diverse communities, and to continue as a Memorial for peace, for the coming century and beyond.
